Grey Highlands is Moving In A New Direction!
Who would have
thought that after so many years with the same old, same old that we as a
community would band together to bring change to our lovely Grey Highlands.
Well, it has happened Grey Highlands has a new mayor and a new deputy mayor. We
are definitely sad to see the old leave but wait with nervous anticipation to
see what the new council will bring.
Wayne Fitzgerald
took an early lead and continued on to win the mayoral election. He finished the
election with 2,546 votes to defeat Mayor Brian Mullin, who received 1,967 votes
a difference of 579 votes. Some of the community was surprised and others were
excited for the change. Wayne has already begun making his plans for the
improvements that are long overdue. His strategic plan will encourage growth,
and to attract new businesses and industries. He plans to target each of the
urban centers with their own specific needs. This is encouraging to hear and
brings hope that our community will change for the better and bring a breath of
fresh air to the area.
Paul McQueen has
replaced Dave Fawcett as the Deputy Mayor of Grey Highlands. He came out on top
with 2,166 votes, following behind by 621 votes was longtime incumbent Dave
Fawcett who came out with 1,545 votes, and in the last position was Ken McArthur
with only 768 votes. There is a mixture of old councilors and new councilors
which will make for some new ideas with a hint of what was intermixed. The new
Council of Grey Highlands is Lynn Silverton 2,595 votes, Paul Allen 2,424 votes,
Stewart Halliday 2,412 votes, David Kell with 2,117 votes and David Clarke 1,866
votes.
It is encouraging
to see that we as a Community are ready for change and hopefully this new
council will be up for the challenge to bring that change. I look forward to
seeing what direction they are going to take us.
