Melodina Herman Memorial Ski and Snowboard Day Mansfield

 Friday, January 28, 2011 - Friday, January 28, 2011
Location: Mansfield Ski Club
A day of remembrance and fun on the slopes in support of SickKids Foundation. This event is in memory of Melodina Herman who was a student at Centre Dufferin District Highschool, a FIS racer who trained with HADT (Huronia Alpine Development Team) and a resident of Hornings Mills. Melodina became ill in late 2005 and in late 2007, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. While she was ill, she received treatment at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. While she was a patient there, Melodina became a SickKids ambassador and did everything she could to raise funds for the SickKids Foundation. Sadly, Melodina passed away in January 2009. It is with her spirit in mind that we, her family and friends, continue her important work to help sick children with fundraising events such as this. This is a SickKids Foundation sanctioned event and 100 of the proceeds from this event will be donated directly to the Foundation.

47th Annual Winter Scout Campout

Friday, January 28, 2011 to Sunday, January 30, 2011
10:00 AM
Contact: Len Cox 519-371-9205

This annual camp started in 1964 when two local troops decided to earn their winter camping badge by camping out overnight in mid-January. Attendance and activities quickly expanded to include a full weekend of winter activities and camping. The most popular event is the Rescue Mission, closely followed by log sawing, fire lighting, knot tying, compass work, and an obstacle course. We judge the sleds, which are pre-built by the groups and used in the Rescue Mission. There is a program for each of Scouts (ages 11-14) and Venturers (14-17). Trophies are awarded to the winning troop for each event. The trophies are kept by the winners and returned the following year. They also receive pennants to keep. Everyone receives a crest. Scouts come from around Southern Ontario and as far away as Miamisburg, Ohio.   Harrison Park
